QUALITY AWARD PROGRAM

2008 - 2009

JUDGING PROCESS & APPLICATION:

Applications are being accepted for judge positions for the ASQ Cincinnati Section Quality Award Program.  The deadline for submitting your application is August 31st, 2008.  Applicants will be notified of their selection by September 19th, 2008.

Judges Responsibility:

Judges will be responsible for reviewing the Award applications and scoring them based on a 5 criteria, using a 100 point scoring system derived from the ASQ International Team Excellence Award criteria.  A quantified score sheet will be prepared in addition to a written narrative assessing the applications strengths and opportunities for improvement.  The judges will then meet and select the top three applicants and an honorable mention.  All judging will be blind as to the applicants company and team members.  Judges may submit an application, however, they will exempt from evaluating their own application and are not eligible for an award.  They will, however, receive a score card and evaluation.

Benefits of Judging:

In appreciation for your contribution to the Quality Award Program you will receive a certificate, a listing on the ASQ Cincinnati Web site, a complimentary meal during the judging and a free admission to the Awards Banquet.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants who have received the ITEA judge training will be given preference in the selection of our judges.  Other criteria used in our selection include:

  • All judges must be ASQ members

  • Quality work experience

  • Previous judging experience, e.g. ITEA, Baldrige,

  • Quality education/certification

  • ASQ activities

* Note – Applicants are welcome from the Greater Cincinnati area including Southwest Ohio, Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky.

Judging Criteria:

All Quality Award applications will be evaluated based on the following 5 judging criteria:

  1. Project Selection (20 possible points) - How well did the applicant explain the methods used to define the problem and select the project

  2. Situation Analysis, Measurement and Analysis (20 possible points) - How well did the applicant  explain the method used to identify potential causes and how the team selected the primary “root cause”

  3. Solution Development (20 possible points) - How well did the applicant explain the process used to identify potential solutions and how the team selected the final solution to implement.

  4. Project Implementation and Results (20 possible points) - How well did the applicant explain the approach used to implement the solution and the net results achieved.

  5. Team Management (20 possible points) - How well did the applicant explain how the team members were selected and the project was managed.

Scoring System:

Each section of the report will be scored from 0 to 20 based on how well it addresses the requirements.  The total possible score ranges from 0 to 100.  Each judge will study and score each proposal and prepare a score card.  A rating summary sheet and narrative summary will be prepared for each application and exchanged with all judges.  The judges will then meet to discuss the applications and revise their scores if desired.  The applications with the 4 highest scores will be selected as the winners.  If two of the finalists receive the same score the judges will then vote on their rank order.
